In-person and Telehealth sessions provided

Rex meets with his clients in person at his consultation room in Perth (details in the Contact section).  Rex also offers telehealth sessions via Zoom for clients unable to attend in person or those living interstate.

Consultation Fees

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) is the peak body representing Psychologists in Australia and their recommended fee for a Clinical Psychologist for 2024-2025 is $311 for a standard 46-60-minute session.  Rex charges less than the recommended fee for private client therapy so that psychological care is more accessible to the community – see below for 2025 fees.

Rebates

Rex is registered with Medicare to provide clinical ‘Psychological Therapy’ items. This means that clients referred by their GP or Psychiatrist with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) receive a Medicare rebate of $145.25 per session attended.  In-person and telehealth sessions attract the same consultation fees and Medicare rebates (if under a MHCP).

Under the Medicare rebate scheme, clients are currently eligible to receive up to 10 sessions under a MHCP per calendar year (Jan-Dec). An initial 6 sessions are approved by your GP, and a further 4 sessions may be approved following a Review. No further sessions are claimable under Medicare for the year after these 10 have been exhausted, and the client would need to fund any ongoing sessions personally. The number of sessions you are eligible for under Medicare is determined by your referring practitioner.

Please check with your private health fund to confirm any rebates available to you.  You may claim either Medicare or a private health fund rebate, NOT both.

If you do not have a current MHCP, please call and speak to Rex about your options.  You can attend without a MHCP, however, you will need to pay the full session fees as the Medicare rebate will not apply.

SessionRex’s FeeMedicare rebate (if eligible)Out-of-pocket payment
Standard 55min therapy session$270$145.25$124.75

The full fee is to be paid at the time of consultation via cash credit card or direct deposit.  A HICAPS merchant facility is available at the clinic allowing clients to pay using EFTPOS or credit. You will be provided with a Receipt at the end of your session so you can claim the Medicare rebate (where applicable).

If the out-of-pocket gap payment will unduly impact you, please talk to Rex. Depending on capacity and availability, Rex may be able to offer a reduced-rate fee, or bulk-billing for clients who are pensioners, are unemployed, or for those on government benefits.  Please speak to Rex if the above applies to you, however, please note that you don’t automatically qualify for reduced fees.  Rex’s full session fee applies if no prior arrangement has been made for reduced-fee sessions.

Psychological Reports & Letters

Reports are requested for various reasons and the cost of the report will depend on the length of the report and the time taken to compile it.
Psychological reports and letters are charged separately based on an hourly rate, and attract a GST component of 10%. Please note that all reports and letters must be pre-paid before they will be released. There is usually at least a 10 business day turnaround for preparing reports. Rex will discuss the cost of Reports and Letters with you.
